Installing Windows 10 from a Downloaded ISO using Rufus

If you’ve downloaded the installation media for Windows 10 onto your computer, you’re now ready to begin the installation process. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install Windows 10 using Rufus, a popular tool for creating and managing bootable USB drives.

Before You Start:

  • Make sure you have Rufus installed on your computer. Download it from the official website if you haven’t already.

  • Ensure that the ISO file is not corrupted or incomplete.

  • Choose the correct drive letter where you want to install Windows 10 (usually C:).

  • Plug in a blank USB drive (at least 8GB capacity recommended).

Step 1: Boot from Rufus and Select the USB Drive

  • Open Rufus on your computer and select the USB drive as the boot device.

  • Insert the blank USB drive into your computer’s empty MBR partition area.

Step 2: Create a Bootable Media

  • Go to Rufus and select the Windows 10 ISO file you downloaded earlier.

  • Choose the “Create a bootable media” option and select “USB Drive (USB)” as the device type.

  • If prompted, enter the USB drive’s capacity and confirm the creation of the bootable media.

Step 3: Set Boot Options

  • In Rufus, select the boot order by clicking on the “Boot Options” tab.

  • Choose “USB Drive” as the priority boot device (this will set your computer to boot from the USB drive first).

  • Click “OK” to save the changes.

Step 4: Boot Windows 10

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS settings by pressing F2, F12, or Del (depending on your computer’s manufacturer). Look for the “Boot Order” or “Advanced” tab.

  • Ensure that the USB drive is highlighted as the first boot device in the order of priority.

Step 5: Install Windows 10

  • Press Enter to enter the BIOS settings again and save changes.

  • Your computer will now enter the installation media screen.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions, which will guide you through the installation process.

Step 6: Finish Installation

  • Choose your language and time zone during the installation process.

  • Select “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and click “Next”.

  • Create a password for your new Windows 10 installation (optional).

  • Select your internet connection type (wired or wireless).

  • Enter your Internet connection details and wait for the installation to complete.

Step 7: Activate Windows 10

  • Once installed, you’ll receive an activation window with your product key.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to activate your Windows 10 license.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully installed Windows 10 from a downloaded ISO using Rufus.
